Terms of use
Last updated 3 October 2026
These terms cover the PhoneForge website, the web tools at web.phoneforge.app and the PhoneForge phone app. By using any of them you accept what is written here. If you do not, please do not use them.
1. What PhoneForge is
A set of four free tools, provided by Taadom Digital of Yaounde, Cameroon: Contacts, Files, Scanner and Cleaner. There is no charge, no account and no contract to sign.
2. Keep your own copy
This is the important one. PhoneForge works on a copy of your data and deletes it shortly afterwards. It is not storage and it is not a backup. Keep the original of anything you care about.
Contacts never writes to your phonebook: it hands you a file to import yourself. Cleaner never deletes a file: it hands you a list. That is on purpose, so that a mistake by this software cannot cost you anything you still have.
3. Check the result
Every tool here makes judgements. Contacts decides which entries look like the same person. Cleaner decides which photographs look alike. The Scanner reads words off a photograph and will sometimes read them wrong, particularly handwriting and particularly digits. Editing a PDF rewrites part of a document someone else built.
Look at what comes out before you rely on it, and especially before you delete anything or send it to someone else. For anything where a mistake matters, such as a medical, legal or financial document, have a person check it.
4. What you may not do
- Upload anything you do not have the right to process, including other people's documents and contact lists you were not given.
- Use it to strip protection from, or alter, a document in order to deceive somebody.
- Upload anything unlawful, or anything designed to damage the service or the people using it.
- Automate it at a volume that affects other people. The service is rate-limited and sized for individual use.
Contact data belonging to other people is still their data. If you upload a phonebook, you are responsible for having a reason to hold it.
5. Limits of the service
- Uploads are capped at 50 MB per file.
- Requests are rate-limited. Sustained heavy use may be slowed or blocked.
- Some features depend on software that a given deployment may not have. Where that is the case the tool says so rather than failing quietly.
- There is no uptime promise. This is a free service and it may be unavailable, changed or withdrawn.
6. Your content stays yours
You keep every right in what you upload. You give us permission to process it only in order to do the job you asked for, and only for as long as that takes. See Privacy for what that means in practice.
7. Our content
The PhoneForge name, the anvil mark and the design of these pages belong to Taadom Digital. PhoneForge is built on open-source software; what is used and under which licence is recorded in the project's licence inventory.
8. No warranty
PhoneForge is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind. We do not promise it is free of defects, that it will always be available, or that a result will be correct or complete.
9. Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Taadom Digital is not liable for loss of data, loss of profit, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from use of PhoneForge. Nothing here limits liability for fraud, or for anything that cannot lawfully be limited.
10. Changes
These terms may change. The date at the top will change with them, and continuing to use PhoneForge after that means accepting the new version.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of Cameroon, and the courts of Cameroon have jurisdiction over any dispute.
